About the Position
The Department of Biology, research group on "Molecular Plant Physiology" at the University of Marburg is accepting applications for a Doctoral Researcher/PhD. The position is offered for a period of 3 years. The position is part-time (65% of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 65%).
Project
Plant cell walls represent a structural barrier against the penetration of plant-pathogenic fungi. Moreover, the detection of cell wall damage activates intracellular signaling pathways that are coordinated with defense signaling. This project aims to investigate how specific cell wall properties influence these defense mechanisms.
Tasks
- Scientific services in research and teaching
- Analysis of cell wall properties in Arabidopsis signaling mutants during pathogen interaction
- Investigation of cell wall composition- and signalling-dependent defence responses at pathogen entry sites
The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate.
Requirements
- MSc-degree or equivalent in Biology, Biochemistry or a related discipline
- MSc thesis with a focus on molecular biology, genetics, plant physiology or bioanalytics
- Strong written and spoken English skills
- A creative, analytical and critical mindset, the ability to work independently and to further develop the project
- Disposition to own scientific qualification (i.e. to obtain a doctorate)
Previous practical experience in confocal laser-scanning microscopy, HPLC analysis, RNA-Sequencing or plant-pathogen interaction is of advantage.
