Chair of Health Economics and Prevention Strategies (pay grade W3)

Position Description

The Chair of Health Economics and Prevention Strategies will be concerned with the design and empirical evaluation of measures to promote health and prevent disease. Its research interests will be centred on the economic aspects of the healthcare system, the incentives guiding the behaviour of key actors within it, and population-wide health-related behaviour.

The successful candidate will be able to bridge health economics research with issues in public health, prevention and health promotion. A key emphasis will be placed on the causal analysis of individual and societal impacts of healthcare interventions and reforms, with particular attention on the health of children and young people.

Responsibilities

  • Within the Lower-Bavarian Medical Campus (MCN), oversee teaching in the cross-disciplinary areas of health economics, healthcare systems and public health, prevention and health promotion, as well as occupational and social medicine
  • Actively contribute to the Institute of Health Sciences (IGW) at the University of Passau and play a pivotal role in the institute's development, ensuring its successful launch, academic growth and recognition as a scientific institution
  • Contribute significantly to the integration of medical, health-science and economic perspectives, thereby strengthening the University's interdisciplinary profile in the field of health and medicine

Requirements

  • Outstanding expertise and experience in the fields of health economics and public health
  • Skilled in advanced quantitative research methods, particularly in applying (quasi-)experimental designs or structural econometric models
  • Strong publication record in leading international journals
  • Proven teaching skills and experience in acquiring and implementing externally funded research projects
  • Research demonstrating a close connection to medicine, as demonstrated by relevant scientific publications in medical, health science and similar contexts
  • Educated to doctoral level
  • Demonstrated both pedagogical aptitude and academic excellence
  • German formal postdoctoral habilitation qualification or an equivalent body of academic achievements garnered whilst employed at an institution of higher education, for instance as a juniorprofessor or in a comparable position with a different title (e.g. assistant professor or lecturer), insofar as the duties and qualification profile correspond to those of a juniorprofessor position, or by leading a junior research group under the conditions specified in Art. 98(10) sentence 5 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG); the habilitation-equivalent achievements may also have been attained outside the higher education system
  • Must not be more than 52 years of age at the time of their appointment (in accordance with Art. 60(3) sentence 1 BayHIG)

Diversity and Equal Opportunities

The University of Passau actively promotes equal opportunities for all genders as well as diversity in the workforce; therefore, applications are welcome from all candidates who fulfil the requisite qualifications, without regard to gender, cultural or social background, religion, world view, disability or sexual identity. As the University wishes to raise the proportion of women in research and teaching, female academics are expressly encouraged to apply. This position is suitable for candidates with disabilities. Those who are registered disabled are given preference over non-disabled applicants who do not otherwise have statutory preferential status if their overall personal aptitudes, skills and qualifications are equal.
