Position Description

The future holder of the position is expected to represent the subject in its full breadth from a clearly articulated perspective grounded in cultural analysis. The candidate is expected to possess a broad portfolio of topics and methods in research and teaching. A research focus in the Pre-Christian periods (especially Younger Neolithic/Copper Age; Bronze Age; Iron Ages) is desirable.

The future holder of the position is further expected to have experience in conducting field research projects, be prepared to carry out such projects at LMU Munich, and further develop the chair's focus on human-environment relations (Vegetation History Working Group). Furthermore, a broad cultural-scientific perspective is expected, as well as a basic understanding of the scientific methods of affiliated disciplines in the Natural Sciences. Next to discipline-specific research, recognizable interdisciplinary research approaches are desirable.

Requirements

  • University degree in Pre- and Protohistoric Archaeology
  • Doctoral degree or comparable specific qualification
  • Teaching skills at university level
  • Excellent academic achievements
  • Productive and promising research program
  • Experience and success in acquiring third-party funding
  • Willingness to develop both individual research and collaborative projects
  • Willingness to cooperate with institutions across the Bavarian, national, and international scientific community of archaeological research

Tasks

  • Teaching lectures and courses
  • Conducting examinations in existing bachelor's and master's degree programs as well as in doctoral degree programs
  • Conducting field research projects
  • Further developing the chair's focus on human-environment relations
