Duration: Fixed-term professorship for three years. Pending a positive evaluation, the position may be extended by another period of three years. A conversion to an indefinite position (tenure track) is not possible.
Description

The Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Statistics invites applications for a Junior Professorship (W1) of Mathematics of Machine Learning commencing as soon as possible.
Primary Tasks
The primary tasks of the successful candidate include research and teaching on the mathematical foundations of machine learning. We seek a personality with profound expertise in this area, in particular, within the mathematical aspects of one or several of the following sub-areas:
- Theory of deep learning
- Optimization in machine learning and data science
- Signal and image processing
- High-dimensional probability theory in connection to machine learning and data science
- Machine learning for inverse problems
- Applied harmonic analysis
Acquisition of third party funds and participation in collaborative research initiatives are welcome.
Prerequisites
- University degree
- Teaching skills at university level
- Aptitude for an academic career, usually evidenced by the excellent quality of a doctoral degree
- No more than four years should have passed between the doctorate and the end of the application period. This period is extended by up to two years per child or nursing case if the applicant is caring or has cared for one or more children under the age of 18 or one or more relatives in need of care.
