The working group of the Chair of Media Sociology deals with the empirical analysis of media-related transformation processes of culture and society, their methodological reflection, as well as the empirically based theory formation for the description of techno-sociality(ies) and media culture(s) in world society.

Your Tasks

• independent research in the interest areas of the working group and participation in the initiation and realisation of projects, publications and other activities as well as symposia and workshops (65 %)
• teaching duties in the field of media sociology at a rate of 2.6 LVS/semester, including the associated coursework and examinations (25 %)
• participation in the academic self-administration and committee work of the faculty, as well as in all other areas of activity of the working group (10 %)

Your Profile

We expect

• completed academic university degree (e. g. Master's or Diplom) preferably in sociology, alternatively in Interdisciplinary Media Studies or related social science subjects
• in-depth knowledge in the field of media sociology
• in-depth knowledge in the field of qualitative social science research methods and/or media theories
• very good knowledge of German
• good knowledge of English
• independent, self-reliant and committed way of working
• strong organisational and coordination skills
• cooperative and team-orientated way of working

Preferred experience and skills

• knowledge in the field of qualitative media research, especially digital media
• PhD project in one of the fields of research of the professorship
• knowledge of another foreign language
