Laboratory Manager (f/m/d)

The following position is to be filled at the FG Sáenz at the earliest opportunity for a period of two years.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to drive the management and support of a new research group's laboratory at the Center for Molecular Biology Heidelberg (ZMBH), located on the vibrant research campus "Im Neuenheimer Feld". The role will focus on supporting research on membrane biology and lipid metabolism in the minimal cell JCVI-syn3, using molecular cloning, biophysical, and biochemical approaches.

Your tasks:

  • Management of the laboratory, including establishing databases for documenting materials (e. g. strains, plasmids, synthetic DNA), procuring and inventorying laboratory supplies
  • Training new team members and guests on relevant aspects of the laboratory, including membrane biophysical assays, lipid handling and analysis, and cultivation protocols for the minimal cell JCVI-Syn3
  • Establishing maintenance and operating procedures for molecular cloning and genetic manipulation of minimal cells (JCVI-syn3)
  • Assisting in the establishment and optimization of standard operating protocols, making them available in a standardized manner within the internal electronic lab book environment ("Wiki")
  • Supporting team members and collaboration partners with membrane biophysical measurements and lipid analysis
  • Managing and supporting international research projects with regard to organizing meetings and reporting to the funding body
  • Being an integral part of the group and helping to shape the open and welcoming international atmosphere

Your profile:

  • A completed apprenticeship as a technical assistant, or a completed degree in the natural sciences, or comparable skills and experience
  • Excellent communication skills in English; German is an advantage but not required
  • An eye for detail and the ability to explain complex scientific concepts clearly and concisely
  • At ease in an international research environment

Remuneration is according to the TV-L pay scale. Part-time employment is a possibility. In order to set up the lab and establish standard operating procedures in the research group, the contract will be for two years.
