Research Manager in Development Economics
Aufgaben
This position combines research and managerial functions. It is ideal for someone who thrives working in an internationally diverse team, managing multiple responsibilities concurrently and taking initiative to help improve organizational processes. The RM will support activities across all stages of research – brainstorming, literature reviews, grant writing and reporting, ethical approvals, supporting research assistants with their coding and data work, editing and writing. Managerial activities include liaising with funders and collaborators, organizing events, writing reports, planning tasks and timelines, overseeing project finances, managing hiring processes, sub-contracting and co-leading a team of around 5 predoctoral research assistants. The RM may also be involved in teaching-related activities surrounding Dina Pomeranz' courses and her role as Director of Bachelor and Master Studies. The RM will also be engaged in various activities related to the international diversification of the economics discipline, such as organizing opportunities for African students who want to apply for PhDs through the Graduate Applications International Network (GAIN). The position is compatible with taking courses at the University of Zurich and attending seminars.
Anforderungen
Master's or doctoral degree in economics or a related field (e.g., public policy, political science, ...) - completed or in progress - with a solid understanding of econometrics and impact evaluation • Familiarity with or interest in research and evaluation in developing countries • Proficiency in data analysis, ideally including experience with STATA (R or Python is a plus) • Strong writing and editing skills; clear, professional communication in English (professional communication in German is a plus) • Excellent organizational skills; able to manage multiple concurrent tasks and deadlines, maintain structured documentation and keep an overview under pressure • You are proactive, detailed-oriented, take initiative and are comfortable taking ownership of responsibilities; willing to learn and develop new skills (growth mindset) • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster a cooperative team atmosphere - you find joy in enabling others to do their best work and do things that make a team run smoothly (service mindset) • Comfort with administrative tasks, including managing team accounts, licenses and logistics • Prior experience as a research assistant and/or in project coordination, team supervision or budget tracking is an advantage but not required
