About the Position
In the field of resource-efficient energy conversion, we are seeking a physicist, chemist, or materials scientist (PhD) to strengthen our research activities on chalcogenide materials and multi-optical concepts.
Your main tasks
To broaden our research on chalcopyrite solar cells and integrated nanostructures for advanced optoelectronic management, we are looking for a candidate with expertise in chalcogenides and/or nano-optics. We welcome both experimental and computational approaches, as well as their combination.
The position combines contributions to the group's ongoing research activities, participation in teaching (4 SWS), and the development of future research initiatives. In particular, the successful candidate will contribute to the preparation of a competitive research proposal within the initial one-year appointment. Candidates are encouraged to contribute their own scientific ideas and expertise, provided they align with the broader research themes and strategic direction of the group.
Your profile
- excellent PhD degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, energy science, or a closely related field, providing a strong background in solid-state physics and the optical, electrical, and thermal properties of materials
- research experience in chalcogenides and/or nanophotonics
- expertise in photovoltaics, particularly CIGSSe, is highly welcome
- experience with thin film deposition techniques (PVD, RTP, or printing), nanostructure fabrication, or material and device characterization (SEM, jV) is desirable
- enthusiasm for both experimental and theoretical research
- experience with numerical simulations (e.g. FEM-based solvers such as Comsol Multiphysics) is an advantage
- expertise in proposal writing highly welcome
- ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative research environment
- interest in developing innovative research ideas while advancing the strategic goals of the group
- excellent communication skills
- very good written and spoken English; German language skills are beneficial
- proven ability to work abroad or in Europe and willingness to collaborate in an international research environment
We offer you
- the opportunity to actively shape and advance emerging research directions in renewable energy technologies
- a stimulating research environment dedicated to sustainable energy conversion
- gain experience in determined scientific research and dissemination
- hands-on experience in scientific project development, proposal writing and third-party funding acquisition
- further qualification in academic teaching through practical courses, tutorials, and seminars
- enhance teaching skills in various scopes (e.g. practical training, tutorials, seminars)
- a pleasant, open-minded, and supportive working atmosphere in an interdisciplinary and international team
- flexible working hours within the framework of existing working time models and the option to work from home
- family-friendly environment with childcare options
