At the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, the Department of Computer Science offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in computer science, information systems and cybersecurity. In view of an upcoming vacancy, the Department of Computer Science wishes to fill the following position:

Full Professor (W3) for "Information Systems, especially Design of Information Systems"

Research Profile

The research profile of the W3 Professorship "Information Systems, especially Design of Information Systems" focuses on design-oriented research in one or more relevant areas, such as the modeling of enterprise information systems, digital transformation, the development, integration, and operation of information systems. A strong connection to emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence or Process Mining, is considered advantageous. Collaboration with colleagues in the Faculty of Computer Science and the Faculty of Business and Organizational Sciences is expected.

Requirements and Qualifications

The position seeks a highly qualified individual with outstanding academic credentials and teaching skills, who will comprehensively represent the field of Information Systems—specifically the design of information systems, in both research and teaching. Academic qualifications must be evidenced by a habilitation or equivalent scholarly accomplishments, as well as relevant publications in academic journals. The candidate should have a distinguished international reputation in topics related to Information Systems, typically demonstrated through contributions to top-tier international conferences and journals.

Teaching and Governance

In teaching, the position holder will be expected to offer fundamental and advanced courses in Information Systems within the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs of the faculty, as well as provide courses for other programs at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich. Excellence in teaching is also a key requirement for the role.

Additionally, the candidate is expected to demonstrate a willingness to secure third-party funding, engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, and contribute actively to academic self-governance.

Conditions of Employment

The recruitment requirements and the employment status of professors are governed by the Federal Civil Service Act (Bundesbeamtengesetz). To be appointed a civil servant (Beamter), candidates must be below the age of 50 on the date of their appointment.
